“My name is Colette and I’m from Cameroon in West Africa. Only 3 years into my construction journey, I had had the good fortune of working on some pretty interesting projects. At the height of the biggest one, the project that was going to seal our reputation as a big player, a civil war broke out in my country. Directly affected, our project was suspended at 80% to completion. I was devastated. I felt lost and insecure. This project had been the center of my life and my baby for over a year. I decided at this point that I needed to lead my team to break new grounds and create meaningful work for ourselves. For this to happen, I felt like I needed a construction coach for guidance. I don’t have a background in construction after all. Serendipitously I found Maria on Instagram and to be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect but there was something that attracted me to her. I thought perhaps it would be technical guidance, filling the gaps in my knowledge and experience. Looking back that was the last thing I needed at that point.
